NERC grants six states the power to regulate electricity markets.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially transferred regulatory authority to six states—Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Oyo, and Edo—allowing them to regulate their own electricity markets. NERC made this announcement on X (formerly Twitter), stating that these states have now established their State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERC). As a result, these state agencies will oversee the electricity markets within their jurisdictions, a shift in authority that was initiated in April 2024, with full effect from May 1, 2024.
