Following worsening security crisis across the nation, the House of Representatives has summoned the security service chiefs and the national security adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to appear before the parliament.
Following the acceptance of a motion presented by Sulaiman Gumi, a lawmaker from Zamfara State’s Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, the House of Representatives passed the resolution during Tuesday’s plenary.
Meanwhile, lawmakers urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently implement a comprehensive and forceful security strategy to flush out bandits and kidnappers from their hideouts and restore safety across the country amid rising insecurity.

The call followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Ibe Osonwa, who represents Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State.
Osonwa voiced alarm over the growing number of kidnappings, banditry, and assaults on weak communities around the country. He further moved the motion titled “A call for immediate executive action on the surge in banditry, the daily abduction of schoolchildren, and the perilous security situation in Nigerian schools and places of worship.”
According to him, the fear of kidnapping has driven “thousands of children out of classrooms due to fear of attacks, while many families continue to grapple with the trauma of kidnappings and prolonged captivity of loved ones.”
