The 2025 Anambra governorship election has been strongly criticized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for being a cash-drenched circus that insulted democracy.
The party accused the incumbent governor and the ruling party of widespread vote buying in a statement issued by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary.
Additionally, it accused election officials and security agencies of doing nothing.

According to the statement, “What unfolded in Anambra was, regrettably, a cash-drenched spectacle that was more of a bazaar than an election. This undermines the very essence of democracy.”
The ADC said that bundles of Naira cash were exchanged in plain sight at voting places around the state, indicating that the election was heavily monetised.
The party also voiced concerns over the apparent passivity and quiet of organisations tasked with preserving the integrity of the polls.

It cautioned that Nigerians should be concerned about the future of democracy if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) holds the general elections in 2027 in a similar fashion.
“Security operatives stood by as voters were harassed and compromised, while electoral officials failed to uphold basic standards,” the statement added.
The ADC stated that it is still dedicated to advancing leadership based on honesty, inclusivity, and service rather than the blatant trade of money for votes.

Similarly, John Nwosu candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Anambra governorship election, has also rejected the outcome of the poll.
Citing extensive vote buying and financial inducement at voting places throughout the state, Nwosu said that the people of Anambra had not genuinely expressed their preference.
