ADC condemns deadly attack on Sauna community in Zamfara

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State has called on President Bola Tinubu to visit the state following the recent terrorist attack on Sauna Community in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Abdulkareem Umar Lihidda, and made available to journalists in Gusau.

The party extended its condolences to the people of Sauna Community, the Talata Mafara Emirate and the families of those killed in the attack, describing the incident as yet another tragic reminder of the worsening security crisis in Zamfara State.

ADC strongly condemned the attack and urged security agencies to step up efforts to safeguard lives and restore public confidence across affected communities.

The party also called on both the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government to take decisive action by ensuring those behind the attack are identified, apprehended and prosecuted.

According to the statement, those responsible must be brought to justice while authorities implement proactive measures to prevent similar attacks on innocent residents across the state.

The opposition party expressed concern that President Tinubu has not made an official visit to Zamfara since assuming office, despite the recurring terrorist attacks and the humanitarian challenges facing the state.

ADC urged the President to visit Zamfara to commiserate with victims, assess the security situation personally and reassure residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to ending insecurity.

The party stressed that the people of Zamfara deserve the same level of protection, attention and compassion as citizens in other parts of the country.

It further called for stronger security operations and the adoption of long-term strategies to restore lasting peace across the state.

ADC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sincere efforts aimed at combating insecurity and promoting peace, justice and sustainable development in Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole.

BACKSTORY:

Zamfara State has remained one of Nigeria’s worst-hit regions by armed banditry and terrorist attacks, with communities frequently experiencing killings, kidnappings and the destruction of property. Over the years, criminal groups have repeatedly targeted rural communities, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes and worsening the humanitarian crisis in the state.

Despite several military operations and other security interventions by the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government, attacks have continued across many local government areas, including Talata Mafara, Maradun, Anka, Bukkuyum and Tsafe.

The latest attack on Sauna Community has renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity in the state, prompting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to call for stronger security measures and urge President Bola Tinubu to visit Zamfara to assess the situation firsthand and reassure residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace.
