Nollywood actor, Daniel Etim Effiong has defended his involvement in multiple kissing scenes in movies, arguing that actions should be judged by a person’s intentions rather than by outward appearances.
In an social media video, the actor questioned critics who criticise performers for portraying amorous situations, comparing them to medical practitioners whose work involves examining private body parts.
“Would you ask this same question to a gynaecologist? Do you know who a gynaecologist is? Of course, a guy is a doctor, a medical doctor that saves lives and works with women and looks at the female genitals every day,” he said.
According to Effiong, the moral quality of an action is determined not merely by the physical act itself, but also by the individual’s underlying intent and heart condition.
Referencing biblical principles, the actor maintained that a person’s inner character carries greater weight than their external demeanor.
He added that seemingly harmless gestures, such as making eye contact or offering a handshake, can be exploited malevolently and may, in specific contexts, carry more harmful motives than a kiss.
“There’s a condition of a man’s heart that judges what he does, that qualifies what he does, that makes it good or evil. It’s not what you see from the outside; it’s what the man is, the condition of his heart,” he added.

Daniel Etim-Effiong’s latest defence comes as the Nollywood actor has repeatedly faced criticism over his kissing and intimate scenes in films.
The debate has also been fuelled by some of Etim-Effiong’s comments about his own marriage. In June 2025, he revealed during an interview that he eventually married his wife, Toyosi, after a woman he had initially wanted to marry rejected his proposal.
