ADC Faction rejects G100 coalition alliance

ADC Faction Rejects G100 Coalition, Says Atiku Won’t Be Its 2027 Candidate

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, has formally dissociated itself from any coalition, alliance, or merger involving the G100 Coalition.

The party asserted that it will contest the 2027 polls independently, accusing certain members of the G100 Coalition and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of attempting to pressure its leadership into a political partnership.

In an official statement, Gombe stressed that the ADC will not allow itself to be drawn into any agreement that might compromise its interests, affirming that the party remains firmly committed to its distinct political ideology, internal structure, and nationwide presence.

The ADC chairman also cautioned Atiku against speaking on behalf of the party or presenting himself as its presidential candidate.

He said: “The leadership of the ADC is fully cognizant of the sustained pressure, political manipulation, and backchannel negotiations being orchestrated by certain elements within the so-called G100 Coalition and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in a deliberate attempt to railroad the ADC into a forced merger or alliance.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let it be placed on record; The African Democratic Congress is NOT, and will NOT be, in any alliance, merger, or coalition with any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party leader emphasized that the organization is independent and self-sufficient, stating that leadership will not be coerced into any arrangement that conflicts with the interests of its members.

Gombe advised both members and the general public to disregard reports linking the ADC to Atiku or the G100 Coalition, while affirming that the party remains open to individuals who share its core ideology and political vision.

The chairman further reiterated that the party is fully prepared to contest the 2027 general elections without altering its established position on political coalitions.

Backstory…

In September, the G100, a group of opposition political parties pushing for the opposition to field one presidential candidate in the 2027 presidential contest, announced plans for the coalition to be expanded to accommodate more political parties.

The G100 coalition currently includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
