Why AI Literacy Is Becoming an Essential Skill

Language also remains an overlooked challenge. Many AI systems perform best in widely spoken global languages, leaving users who communicate primarily in indigenous African languages with fewer reliable resources. Expanding AI support for African languages could help make digital learning more inclusive while preserving cultural identity.

Private companies also have a role to play. Technology firms, financial institutions and startups can help expand AI literacy through scholarships, free training programmes, workplace learning and partnerships with educational institutions.
