Akor Adams Thanks CAF Medical Team Over Mother’s Health After AFCON Win
Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Akor Adams, expresses deep appreciation to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for sending its medical team to take care of his sick mother during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The forward opened up about his worries after Nigeria defeated Egypt in the third-place match, describing the experience as emotional but encouraging.
Speaking after the match, Akor Adams explained that family matters remain important even during major tournaments like the AFCON. The Super Eagles striker said the situation could have affected his focus, but timely intervention from CAF made a big difference for him and his family.
Adams said, “Just like in every other tournament, there are things that happen in between, and family matters aren’t really separate from that.” He further added, “I’m thankful it wasn’t anything too serious or out of control. I also want to thank the CAF medical team because they took good care of her.”
The CAF medical team support brought relief to the striker, who confirms that his mother is now doing much better. He says the medical support allowed him to stay positive and committed to helping the Super Eagles on the pitch.
“She’s doing much better now, and yeah, I’m happy we were able to go through this together,” Adams says. His words reflect gratitude as well as emotional strength during a demanding international tournament.

Despite the victory over Egypt, Akor Adams admitted that he has mixed feelings about the outcome of the competition. While the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal, the striker says missing out on the title still hurts.
“I’m not very happy, but the most important thing is that we won,” he said when asked about celebrations.
He also insists that the achievement should not be downplayed, stressing the effort it takes to win any medal at AFCON.
“No, don’t say it’s a bronze medal like it’s something easy. No, some people came and left without getting anything,” Akor Adams states. He continues to maintain a positive outlook as the team heads back to the hotel to rest and recover.
Reflecting on his first Africa Cup of Nations medal, Akor Adams describes the moment as special. He says the experience gives him motivation and confidence as he looks ahead in his international career.

“It’s my first. Just like you said, there’s nothing else to compare it to. So, it’s a good thing,” he concludes.
Akor Adams played 7 matches at the AFCON, scored 3 goals, and registered 2 assists.
