Alex Ekubo’s passing is a major loss to Abia State and the entertainment industry — Otti.

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed condolences to the Ekubo family following the death of Nollywood actor Alex Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke.

Otti made the remarks on Thursday in Arochukwu, Abia State, during a funeral service held for the late actor by Streams of Joy Church. He described Ekubo’s passing as a significant loss to both Abia State and the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, said the late actor was more than just a screen personality, noting that he served as a cultural ambassador whose work helped project Abia State and Nigeria positively on the global stage.

He also commended Ekubo for consistently embracing his roots with pride and showing through discipline and dedication that success is achievable regardless of background. According to him, the actor’s journey from Arochukwu to becoming a widely recognised figure remains an inspiration to young people.

Otti further noted that Ekubo had a unique ability to connect with audiences, saying his performances brought joy to many homes and motivated aspiring creatives to pursue excellence.

He urged the bereaved family, the people of Arochukwu, and members of the creative industry to remain strong and take comfort in their faith.

The late actor, aged 40, reportedly died from complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, parents, siblings, and other relatives.

The funeral was attended by colleagues from the entertainment industry, including actors and other public figures who came to pay their last respects.
