The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has launched a committee tasked with restructuring the mandates and oversight of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the State Civil Service.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony yesterday at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia emphasized that the initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and boosting service delivery across the system.
Alia directed the committee to review the functions of all existing MDAs—including ministries, bureaus, commissions, and state-owned companies—and to propose necessary adjustments for more effective supervision.
Led by Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode, the committee will also assess the roles of political appointees, such as Special Advisers and Assistants, and address any overlapping responsibilities within the civil service structure.

“This is a very serious assignment and I urge you to take it very seriously. This idea is aimed at restoring standard operational procedures, strengthening institutional values, and enhancing the quality of personnel for optimal performance in the civil service”, he explained.
He described the assignment as a call to service and assured the committee of the government’s support.
Responding on behalf of members, Barr. Bernard Hom, SAN, appreciated the confidence reposed in them and pledged to carry out the assignment with diligence.
According to the statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, the committee which comprises select distinguished indigenes of the state is expected to submit its report within two months for government consideration.
