Suspected members of the Neo-Black Movement cult, popularly known as Aye, on Friday evening unleashed violence in Ogidi community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Information gathered indicates that the attackers injured several residents and killed the President General of the community, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, alongside another yet-to-be-identified person.
The attack is believed to be connected to the earlier killing of a known Aye cult member, popularly called Emma Amasco, aged about 25. Amasco was reportedly involved in cult activities and street robbery, operating around Onitsha where he allegedly dispossessed victims of mobile phones and other valuables.
Reports say he was apprehended on Wednesday while attempting to sell several stolen phones and laptops at Sir Emeka Offor Plaza in Onitsha. He was later taken back to Ogidi at the insistence of the traditional ruler and the now-late President General, both of whom were said to be firm in their opposition to cultism and violent crime in the community.
During interrogation, Amasco was alleged to have confessed to multiple crimes and named several individuals connected to cult-related killings. He later died under unclear circumstances, a development that reportedly triggered threats of retaliation by fellow cult members.
Chief Ikwuka Okoye, described as a respected and influential leader in Ogidi, was subsequently killed during the Friday evening attack. Details surrounding his death were still sketchy at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command expressed sympathy with the community and linked the incident to the earlier arrest and death of the notorious cult suspect.
The statement noted that Anambra police operatives promptly secured the scene and commenced investigations, adding that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible. Residents were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
