ADC Defection: Atiku Hosts Kwankwaso in Abuja Ahead of March 30 Formal Defection

Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and a stalwart of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday hosted ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Abuja.

According to PUNCH Online, Kwankwaso visited the former vice president at his Abuja residence prior to his impending defection to the ADC.

In a post on his official X account, Atiku said that Kwankwaso was on a courtesy visit and that they had a thorough conversation about the status of the nation.

He wrote, “This evening, I received the former Governor of Kano State and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), H.E Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation.”

The event occurred a few days after Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the ADC, paid Kwankwaso a visit at his home in Abuja.

The NNPP chieftain also verified the visit on his X page, though he did not disclose details of their discussions.

Kwankwaso’s official registration on Monday will signify his departure from the NNPP, a party he was instrumental in creating, and his start of a new political journey ahead of the 2027 elections.
