Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s chief of defence staff, has called attention to three crucial problems in the suspected herdsmen’s killing in Yelewata town, Benue State.
The CDS discussed the surge in killings in Benue communities during his visit to the state on Tuesday.

He claimed that land disputes and cattle rustling are the three main causes of the crisis between farmers and herders.
He noted that a political solution is the best fix to the three issues.
“There are two or three issues.
“One is the issue of land. Indigenes or non-indigenes. It is critical. Which can be sorted out politically. Secondly is the issue of the movement of animals.
“If the animals don’t move, we don’t have an issue. We also have the issue of animal rustling. These are the critical aspects that must be addressed,” he said in a video clip.
This comes after Yelewata community in Benue State’s Guma Local Government Area saw more than 200 deaths on June 13–14, 2025.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit some of the impacted communities in Benue state following widespread criticism and public uproar directed at him for his silence on the state’s crisis.
