Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is hospitalised in France.
Sowore made the claim during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, on Monday.
He made the allegation while discussing Tinubu’s extended absence from Nigeria after the President began a three-week official trip abroad.
Drawing comparisons with the administrations of former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Umaru Yar’Adua, Sowore alleged that some of Tinubu’s public appearances were staged to conceal a serious medical condition.
“Reliable sources have said Tinubu is undergoing treatment in France. Those once-in-a-while appearances are designed to fool the public.
“They used the same language when Yar’Adua and Buhari were sick and in the hospital for a long time, saying the president can govern from anywhere.
“I’ve been in the US for the last two weeks, and I was also monitoring what was happening at the United Nations General Assembly.
“Tinubu is hospitalised in France. I don’t know what ailment it is because we don’t have those details, and that is why they have not discharged him from the hospital,” he said.

Tinubu sued for refusing to hand over power
Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) has sued President Bola Tinubu at the Federal High Court in Abuja over his alleged failure to transfer power to Vice-President Kashim Shettima during his trip to Europe on August 30, 2026.
Inihebe Effiong, National Legal Adviser of the AAC, filed the suit through an originating summons on September 28, 2026, under case number FHC/ABJ/CS/2353/2026.
The suit names President Tinubu as the first defendant, Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, as the second defendant, Senate President Godswill Akpabio as the third, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen as the fourth and the National Assembly as the fifth defendant.
The African Action Congress (AAC) is seeking a judicial declaration that the National Assembly’s failure to adopt a resolution empowering Vice President Kashim Shettima as Acting President—following President Bola Tinubu’s absence exceeding 21 days—is unlawful.
In its suit, the AAC contends that President Tinubu’s failure to transmit a written declaration to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives violates Section 145(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), arguing that the omission is illegal, undemocratic, and deprives the Vice President of the constitutional mandate to perform executive duties in an acting capacity.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation in Europe as part of his annual leave.
On September 21, the day he was originally expected to return, the Presidency announced a multi-day extension to his vacation, with his arrival anticipated over the following weekend.
However, as of Monday, September 28, President Tinubu had not returned, following a statement issued by the Presidency on Sunday announcing a further postponement of his arrival.
