Several passengers have sustained injuries of varying degrees following a collision between an Abuja-Kaduna train and another train.
The incident occurred during the peak early morning commute on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The passenger train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja failed to reach its destination as scheduled after the disruption occurred along the busy rail line linking the Federal Capital Territory with Kaduna State.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident, saying the derailment occurred near Asham, Daily Post disclosed.
According to passengers on board, the incident happened suddenly, sending shock and panic through the coaches as the Abuja-Kaduna train came to an abrupt halt.
Some passengers reported hearing a loud bang before the train jolted violently, throwing several people off their seats and causing confusion inside the coaches.
The Abuja-Kaduna train allegedly collided with another train along the line, according to eyewitness reports, causing rail operations to momentarily halt while the situation was evaluated.

Sada Malumfashi, a social media user claiming to be a passenger, recounted the terrifying incident soon after getting off the train, stating that many people were unprepared for the unexpected shock.
The traveller who wrote on his X account emphasised that the train was still for around half an hour until the trip slowly started in the direction of Kubwa, an area outside of Abuja.
It was also gathered that a number of passengers were injured, with some reportedly sustaining cuts and bruises after being flung against seats and metal fittings inside the train compartments.

Kayode Opeifa stated that no fatalities have been reported as of the time of reporting. He added that injured passengers have been transported back to Idu Train Station to receive medical attention.
He also stated that the NRC has initiated an investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the occurrence, he continued.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have urged commuters and passengers to maintain calm.
This comes just months after a similar incident when Kaduna bound passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna in August 2025 derailed , leaving several carriages overturned and triggering panic among those on board
