Kebbi 2027 election

BREAKING: Kebbi 2027: Gov Idris names Ibrahim Augie as new running mate

The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate to Governor Nasir Idris for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, during a thank-you visit by stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate to the governor.

Argungu explained that the decision followed legal advice concerning the eligibility of the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu, to continue as Idris’ running mate in the 2027 election.

He said, “The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice.”

He subsequently announced Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the governor’s new running mate for the forthcoming election.

Argungu stressed that the decision was taken with the knowledge and consent of Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, dismissing suggestions of a disagreement between the governor and his deputy.

He urged politicians, APC members and supporters across the state to accept the development and remain united as the party prepares for the 2027 election.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Governor Nasir Idris also denied any rift between him and the outgoing deputy governor.

Idris assured APC members that he would work closely with the new running mate and called on party supporters to remain united and focused on the development of Kebbi State.

Ibrahim Muhammad Augie previously served as Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State under the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu. He is from Augie Local Government Area of the state.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the people of the Argungu Emirate for their continued support and cooperation with his administration.
