The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Malian Eric Chelle as the Senior Men’s Team Head Coach ahead of World Cup qualifiers
The 47-year-old Malian, Eric Chelle, has been appointed as Nigeria Super Eagles head coach by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
His appointment was announced in a statement issued by the NFF stating they had appointed the Malian tactician to take charge of the affairs of the super eagles.
According to reports, Chelle was spotted and recommended for the head coach job by the NFF technical and development sub-committee earlier in January. The football federation’s executive committee then approved and endorsed the recommendation a few hours before the announcement.
There has been no reason or issued a statement stating why they had picked Eric Chelle for the post.
Chelle’s career spans across him being the head coach of Mali at the last African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. Mali got to the quarter final but lost to the host country in extra time.
His other career stats show he was the manager of lower division french clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, and Boulogne, before he joined Mali in 2022.
He has 5 caps playing for Mali during his playing days as well as several club appearances for clubs like Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais in France.
Eric Chelle has been tasked with ensuring the Super Eagles earn a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. While gliding through Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March, as those are his first games for Nigeria.
