Nigerian music star Burna Boy has made history by setting a new record for the highest number of monthly listeners ever achieved by an African artist on Spotify.
The ‘African Giant’ singer recently reached 46.84 million monthly listeners on the platform, surpassing the previous record of 46.58 million held by South African star Tyla.
Burna Boy has now climbed even higher, with his monthly listeners standing at 47.3 million, putting him on track to become the first African artist to hit the 50 million mark on Spotify.
The massive rise in streams has been largely driven by his World Cup collaboration with Shakira titled Dai Dai.
The track recently reached the number one spot on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart, making Burna Boy the first African artist to achieve the feat since Wizkid appeared on the chart through his collaboration with Drake on One Dance in 2016.
