Breaking news: Bandits are requesting N40 trillion and 150 motorcycles as ransom to release 16 kidnapped victims in Kaduna.

Bandits in Kaduna State have reportedly demanded a ransom of N40 trillion, 150 motorcycles, and other items for the release of 16 residents abducted from the Gonin Gora area.

According to John Yusuf, a community leader, the bandits made the demand during a phone call on Monday. They requested N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans, and 150 new motorcycles.

This marks the first time such a large ransom demand has been made by bandits in Nigeria since the start of abductions for ransom.

On February 28, bandits killed two residents of Anguwan Auta in Gonin Gora and abducted several others.

Following the attack, residents blocked the Kaduna-Abuja highway on February 29 to protest the killing and abduction.

Yusuf revealed that the bandits struck the community twice within the week, contacting them afterward to demand a ransom of N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans, and 150 motorcycles for the release of the 16 captives.

Expressing dismay at the exorbitant demand, he emphasized the impossibility of meeting it, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention. He urged for the establishment of a military base behind the community to counter the bandits’ operations.

Yusuf highlighted the vast bushlands surrounding Birnin Gwari, serving as hideouts for the criminals, and stressed the necessity of military presence to secure the area.

Despite challenges, he praised the efforts of the Nigerian Army in combating the bandits.
