Internal speculation has suggested that the Apex Bank of Nigeria (CBN) may retire up to 1,000 employees by December 31st, 2024. The payoffs may be up to N50 billion out of the CBN’s pockets.

However, this doesn’t come as a surprise to many seeing that the CBN has relieved a couple of staff, including directors, since Olayemi Cardoso came on board as the CBN governor.

An internal circular was passed three weeks ago stating the application of the Early Exit Package (EPP) is open to all staff cadres except those who are yet to be confirmed or served less than one year. The exit date is set at December 31st, 2024, and the EPP application is set to close by Saturday, December 7, 2024.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has not made any response to the speculations going around regarding the retirement of 1000 employees.
