Dangote Refinery Gets 4,000 New CNG Trucks for Nationwide Fuel Delivery Starting August 15
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a major step forward in its plan to deliver fuel directly across Nigeria: 4,000 brand-new trucks powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) have just arrived in Lagos.

The news was shared on Saturday through the official Dangote Group’s X (formerly Twitter) page, complete with a video showing the ship arriving at the port and cranes offloading hundreds of the new trucks. The company stated it was “delighted” to receive these trucks, seeing them as a move towards cleaner energy and more efficient transportation in Nigeria and beyond.
What This Means for Fuel Distribution:
This new fleet of trucks is part of a massive N720 billion investment by Dangote to change how fuel is distributed in Nigeria. Starting from mid-August, the refinery plans to deliver petrol and diesel directly to petrol stations, factories, and other large users of fuel. This direct approach aims to cut out middlemen and avoid common problems in getting fuel where it’s needed.
Big Savings and Benefits for Nigerians:
This initiative is expected to bring significant benefits:
Cost Savings: It’s projected to save Nigerians more than N1.7 trillion annually by lowering energy costs, as the refinery itself will absorb over N1.07 trillion in distribution costs each year.
Support for Businesses: Over 42 million small and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) are expected to benefit.
Job Creation: The plan could create more than 15,000 new jobs in the fuel delivery and logistics sector.

Meeting Demand: With this new fleet, Dangote Refinery aims to meet Nigeria’s daily fuel needs, which include about 45 million liters of petrol, 15 million liters of diesel, and 5 million liters of aviation fuel.
Cleaner Energy and Industry Support:
Using CNG-powered trucks is a key part of this plan. CNG is a cleaner-burning fuel, meaning these trucks will produce fewer harmful emissions. This aligns with the Federal Government’s push for cleaner energy alternatives.

Industry experts, including officials from the Presidency and petrol marketers, have largely praised this initiative. They see it as a crucial step towards reducing high fuel distribution costs, making fuel prices more stable, and modernizing Nigeria’s entire petroleum sector.
