Dangote Refinery vs. NNPC: Crude Supply Issues Escalate
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) is under scrutiny as it struggles to fulfill its commitment of supplying 300,000 barrels per day of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery, which is set to be Africa’s largest. Despite a $2.76 billion stake in the refinery, NNPC’s shortfall has led to tensions with International Oil Companies (IOCs) and accusations of inefficiency. Efforts to mandate local crude supply through the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) have faced resistance, while economic pressures and resource-backed loans further complicate the situation.
