In addition to the 14 licenses the brand has held since 2023, Flutterwave just acquired 20 more MTLs in the US.

With 34 direct licenses overall, this accomplishment enables Flutterwave to conduct business in numerous US states and territories without the need for partners or middlemen.

Now, US users can send money to Ghana, Egypt, and Nigeria, opening up previously unattainable remittance channels. In addition to this extension, a rapid ID check has been added to the onboarding process, which makes it quicker and simpler for new users to get started.

Additional enhancements include better in-app flows for a quicker, easier sending experience, increased security measures to protect transactions and uphold compliance, and optimized payment support for Visa and Discover cards issued in the US.

This comeback further demonstrates Flutterwave’s dedication to providing all Send App users in the US with a smooth, safe, and legal user experience. From Washington, DC, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina, and Tennessee, users can now send money.

Why This Matters:

🔹 MTLs are essential for legally offering money transfer and payment services in U.S. states — meaning Flutterwave is now licensed to operate in nearly 70% of the U.S.
🔹 It opens doors for:

Cross-border payments between U.S. and Africa

Expansion of Send App, Flutterwave’s remittance product

Onboarding of more U.S.-based clients and merchants
🔹 It places Flutterwave in direct competition with global players like Wise, PayPal, and Western Union in the remittance space.

Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga “GB” Agboola has said:

“Our goal is to connect Africa to the global economy. These licenses help us do that by making payments faster, safer, and more accessible — no matter where you are.”

The Bigger Picture:

Flutterwave’s expansion isn’t just about growth — it’s about changing the narrative.
This is a Nigerian-founded fintech now playing on a global stage, fully regulated, and building infrastructure that serves not just Africa, but the diaspora.

Final Thought:

From starting in Lagos to becoming a U.S.-licensed payment company — this is African excellence in motion.
And it’s not just good for Flutterwave — it’s good for Africa’s image, investors’ confidence, and digital trade.

AFRICAN FINTECH WIN! 🚀

Flutterwave now holds 34 U.S. licenses to move money legally! 🇺🇸💸🌍

After securing 14 Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs) since 2023, Flutterwave just added 20 more to the list — officially taking its payment infrastructure deeper into the United States.

This move means more remittance access, faster payments, and stronger global positioning for an African-born fintech company.
