Former Attorney General Adoke has been discharged and acquitted by the court regarding the alleged Malabu oil deal.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has cleared former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, of all charges related to the OPL 245 trial.
Justice Abubakar Kutigi dismissed the allegations of fraud, bribery, and conspiracy leveled against Adoke by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In ruling on Adoke’s “no case” submission, Justice Kutigi stated that the EFCC failed to substantiate its claims of fraud, bribery, and money laundering against Adoke, concluding that the defendant had no case to answer.
The judge noted that the EFCC did not provide sufficient evidence to support the allegation of illegal tax waivers granted to Shell and Eni by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) or any other authority.
Regarding the alleged N300 million bribe reportedly given to Adoke by Aliyu Abubakar, the court ruled that the EFCC lacked the necessary evidence to support its case.

The EFCC had admitted earlier that it lacked adequate evidence to contest Adoke’s no case application, although it maintained that Rasky Gbinigie should answer charges related to the purported forgery of company documents.
Adoke, along with other defendants, was charged by the EFCC in January 2020 before the FCT high court, Abuja, over the OPL 245 resolution.
Adoke denied all allegations, including the accusation of collecting a N300 million gratification from Abubakar.
Another case involving Adoke and Abubakar is pending before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja, although it does not directly relate to the OPL 245 transaction.
This trial, which is awaiting a ruling on Adoke’s no case submission, mirrors similar charges brought by the EFCC alleging that Adoke accepted a N300 million bribe from the sale of the oil block to Shell and Eni by Malabu Oil & Gas Ltd in 2011. #naijaeyesblog
