The Reps have requested justification for the N3.25 trillion security budget from the NSA.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives urged the Office of the National Security Adviser to coordinate intelligence and security operations across the nation, particularly in Kaduna State, following the recent abduction of over 200 students by suspected bandits in the Chikun Local Government Area.

Lawmakers expressed concern over the discrepancy between the approved N3.25 trillion security and defence spending by the National Assembly and the ongoing security challenges in the country.

They also called for measures to control small and light weapons amidst escalating insecurity in certain regions.

The House’s decision came after adopting a motion titled “Urgent need to tackle the abhorrent abduction of over 200 students in Kuriga community of Chikun and secure lives and property in Kaduna State,” brought forth by Ahmed Munir, the representative of Lere Federal Constituency, Kaduna State.

Munir highlighted recent incidents of violence in Kaduna State, including the abduction of students and an attack on worshippers in a mosque, emphasizing the need for proactive security measures.

As part of their resolution, the House tasked the Office of the National Security Adviser with coordinating security and intelligence networks to develop a proactive master plan for restoring security. This plan includes conducting ground and aerial operations in various forests across the country.

Additionally, lawmakers urged the Office of the NSA to review and optimize the Acts governing the National Counter-Terrorism Centre and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons to better serve their intended purposes.

Overall, the House emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to address the security challenges facing the nation.
