Sixteen Nigerian soldiers, including two major generals, lost their lives during a peace mission in Delta.

Sixteen officers of the Nigerian Army, including two major generals, were tragically killed during a community clash in Delta State.

The soldiers, along with personnel from the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army, were on a peacekeeping mission to Okuoma community in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta. They fell victim to an ambush by residents of warring communities in the state.

Among those killed were the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and twelve soldiers.

According to Gusau, the troops were attacked while responding to a distress call stemming from a conflict between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta. The commanding officer, leading the reinforcement team, was among the casualties.

“The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities,” Gusau stated.

Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has ordered an investigation into the matter, and the incident has been reported to the state government. Several suspects have been apprehended in connection with the attack.
