Women Central Bank Governors Up 26%, Still Low Representation.

The number of female Central Bank governors has increased by 26% over the past year, climbing from 23 to 29, as reported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Despite this rise, women still represent just 16% of leadership positions in the world’s 185 Central Banks, according to the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF). The increase, marking the highest gain in over a decade, reflects ongoing challenges in achieving gender parity. Smaller economies, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina and Papua New Guinea, are leading the way in promoting women to key roles. The IMF notes that greater gender balance could enhance economic stability and performance.
