Social media activist **Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has affirmed that he would not submit evidence to the police to support his allegations that some security officials assist kidnappers and bandits.
Responding to the Nigeria Police Force’s request on Thursday, Otse said he was willing to face the authorities but preferred to present his evidence and testimony in court.
“I’m not going to be giving the police my evidence. Why would I do that? I would be charged to court, and I would turn down the evidence in court,” he said in a video posted on his Instagram page.
The police had earlier asked VDM to provide evidence for his claim that officers at checkpoints identify wealthy travellers and pass their information to kidnappers, who then target them for abduction.
The Force stated that any proof provided by the activist will be handled urgently and thoroughly investigated, characterising the accusation as grave, unsupported, and detrimental to the organization.
Otse responded to the invitation by saying his attorneys were prepared and challenging the police to bring charges against him if they thought he had committed a crime.
“So when I get to your office, you charge me to court. I can go to court on that same day. My lawyers are on ground,” he said.
The activist repeated his earlier claim that security agencies contribute to the nation’s insecurity, alleging that immigration, customs, the military, and police know what is happening.
Otse also questioned why kidnapping, terrorism, and banditry continue despite the government’s spending on security.
He said he would continue to speak out on issues affecting the country and was ready to defend his allegations against the military and police in court.

His response comes shortly after the Police Force invited VeryDarkMan, to substantiate allegations he made during the NBA conference in Port Harcourt.
Speaking on Tuesday during a panel session at the NBA’s 66th Annual General Conference, VeryDarkMan alleged that police personnel stationed at checkpoints along major highways leak traveller identities and movement details to kidnappers and bandits.
The activist asserted that these security compromises by law enforcement officers have directly facilitated the rise in ransom kidnappings across the country.
