A secondary school student reportedly takes her own life due to an unwanted pregnancy.
A tragic incident unfolded last night in Kunkujang Jatta-ya, West Coast Region of the Gambia, where a grade 10 student of Maladah Senior Secondary School, identified as Mamy Jassey, allegedly took her own life over an unwanted pregnancy.
Reports from local media indicate that Mamy Jassey passed away after reportedly ingesting a poisonous substance shortly after 6 pm on Sunday, April 28, 2024. She was swiftly taken to a nearby private clinic near Lamin Lodge, where a nurse sadly pronounced her deceased.
As preparations for Mamy’s burial were underway, a lab technician residing in her neighborhood observed signs of life in the young girl upon checking her pulse. Acting promptly, the lab technician and concerned neighbors rushed Mamy to the Banjulunding Health Center, where, tragically, she was pronounced dead once again. Subsequently, a postmortem examination was recommended to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.
