Ex- Benue PDP chair, 3 others killed in fresh herdsmen attack

A new attack by herdsmen on communities in Guma and Gwer West Local Government Areas of Benue State has killed James Akase, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, in Benue State, along with three other people.

Akase was the PDP Chairman in his Tse-Defam, Mba’akov Vengav, Avihijime Council Ward of Gwer West LGA till his death on Monday afternoon.

A local source claims that he was killed by armed herdsmen who “took over his community, when he went back to his ancestral home, in search of food to sustain his family.” He had been uprooted by the herders till his death.

According to reports, three other people were killed in Guma LGA communities that same day in a different attack by the herdsmen. They attacked Tse Kologa in Mbagune, Nyiev Council Ward, and Tse Ikpe Ago along Yogbo-Gyungu Aze route in Mbayer/Yandev Council Ward.

According to Samuel Aondohemba, a public affairs analyst in the state, the attacks were “coordinated and unprovoked.”

Many people in the towns were seriously hurt in the numerous attacks, he added, “while others are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the area.”

“These senseless killings are yet another painful reminder of the unending bloodshed our people in Benue state continue to endure” he added.
