The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered a reward of up to $10,000, or roughly N14 million, for information that results in the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, a Nigerian national who has been evading capture for over 20 years.

In late December 2001, Adediran left the Central District of Illinois, United States, only days before the start of his federal trial.

Bank fraud, identity document fraud, and credit card fraud were among the several counts he was facing.

In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Bureau stated, “The FBI offers a reward of up to $10,000 for info leading to the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, wanted for Violation of Conditions of Release. Adediran fled the Central District of Illinois at the end of December 2001, shortly before his trial was set to begin on federal charges of Bank Fraud, Identification Document Fraud, and Credit Card Fraud.”

In August 2001, Adediran allegedly went into a Champaign, Illinois, bank and tried to take out cash using a fake cheque, according to information on the FBI’s website.

He was also charged with opening bank and credit accounts using stolen personal data belonging to Americans.

Shortly before his trial, Adediran absconded, breaking the conditions of his release and turning himself into a fugitive.

He was charged with violating conditions of release and was the subject of a federal arrest warrant filed in the U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois, Urbana, on January 2, 2002.
