The FCT Police Command has announced the deaths of two people who were killed in a bomb explosion at Tsangayar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in the Byazhin area of Abuja.
SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command Spokesperson, issued a statement about the explosion at about 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
She said the police received a distress call from the community before it dispatched its operatives to the location of the incident. Furthermore, she said, the police, on reaching there, tried to shield people away and also flammable materials from the location to avoid further escalation of the fire or injuries.
The injured persons from the bomb explosion were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical assistance.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina visited the owner of the Islamic school, Malam Adamu Ashimu.
“The three visitors are suspected to have brought the explosive device with them.
“Tragically, two of the men died in the explosion while tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED), on the school veranda while the third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment under police guard.”
The FCT Police public relations officer further highlighted the cause of the bomb explosion and how the FCT police bomb squad were able to recover the pieces of the detonated device.
Tsangayar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School’s owner has been taken into custody for further questions, while the police advise FCT residents to be careful and observant of suspicious movements.
