Late Sunday night, a violent attack was carried out by suspected herdsmen on Tse Yange, a Tiv-dominated community in Nasarawa State’s Obi Local Government Area.
The traditional head of the community was killed and other residents were kidnapped during the brutal raid by suspected herdsmen, who allegedly entered the village on motorcycles in the dark.

According to local sources, the gunmen unexpectedly broke into the peaceful rural community, causing mayhem and gunshots that lasted into Monday morning.
At the time of report, authorities had not yet issued an official statement, thus the number of casualties and abducted persons remains unconfirmed.
The most recent incident joins a series of fatal assaults in recent days that have been connected to suspected herdsmen. Armed men broke into the towns of Yelewata and Daudu in Benue State’s Guma Local Government Area over the weekend, causing more than 100 persons to be thought dead.
The organised violence started on Friday evening and lasted until the wee hours of Saturday. Two additional settlements in Makurdi Local Government Area, Mtswenem and Akondotyough Bawa, were attacked just 48 hours prior, killing at least 25 people.

One of the most affected areas, Yelwata, is located on the tense border between Benue and Nasarawa states and is less than 40 minutes’ drive from Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
