The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought a serious cybercrime case to court, arraigning Lagos-based businessman Ugoh Christogonus Onyewuchi and his company, C-PAC Integrated Service Nigeria, for allegedly stealing over N215.8 million through a bank server breach.

The defendants appeared before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe at the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, October 13, 2025, on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and retaining the proceeds of criminal conduct.

The Alleged Server Heist

According to the EFCC, the N215.8 million allegedly retained by Onyewuchi is just a portion of a massive N8.5 billion heist.

The Crime: The total sum of billion was reportedly stolen from accounts domiciled with an unnamed commercial bank.

The Method: The theft was executed through unauthorized access to the bank’s computers and server systems—a sophisticated breach that targeted the heart of the bank’s financial infrastructure.

The Accusation: Onyewuchi and his company, C-PAC Integrated Service Nigeria, allegedly retained control of the million, which was transferred into their company account (number 5080158271).

The charges effectively accuse the defendants of two things: first, knowingly retaining money that was criminally obtained, and second, dishonestly converting that money for their own use.

Court Proceedings and Trial Date

When the charges were read in court, Ugoh Christogonus Onyewuchi pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution counsel, M.K. Bashir, requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre. However, defense counsel G.D. Innocent asked for his client to be allowed to continue enjoying the bail granted during the court’s vacation.

Justice Abike-Fadipe ultimately granted the defense request, but ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility until he perfects the conditions of the bail.
