NAFDAC apprehends fake rice distributor, confiscate over 100 bags of rice in Rivers state

    The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC in partnership with the manufacturers of Big Bull rice, have raided stores around Woji, Mile 1 and Mile 3 axis of Port Harcourt, exposing massive sale of fake big bull rice.

    One of the shops along the YKC axis of Woji was revealed to be a major distributor of  fake rice. NAFDAC officials uncovered significant number of fake big bull rice bags alongside other notable rice brands including cap rice, stallion rice and mama pride rice.

    In addition to the fake rice, other items including sewing and sealing machines, a generator set and over 100 bags of already packaged fake rice were reclaimed by the NAFDAC officials.

    Reports also revealed that the sales person of the said shop who was identified as Ogechi Okafor was apprehended on the scene.

    The NAFDAC coordinator for Rivers state , Pharm. Emmanuel Onogwu pointed out key details that differentiate the authentic big bull rice from the fake big bull rice.

    According to Onogwu, some of the details include; the shiny ribbon across the threaded top, a superior and more quality bag and an authentic logo. He further emphasized that repackaged rice often come from suspicious sources, stressing that these fake rice may have been induced with harmful chemicals just to enhance their appearance.

    It was revealed that a total of one hundred and twenty bags of fake rice were confiscated from over ten shops in the state.
