The NDLEA finds illegal drugs at a Lagos shrine and subterranean storage facility.
Over the weekend, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents discovered illegal drugs at the Igbo-Igunuko temple at Alfa Beach in Ajah and an underground storage facility in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos.
According to a statement from the NDLEA, two suspects, Gbenga Abiodun and Sunday Abiodun, were arrested on Friday after the illicit material, believed to be Ghanaian Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 2,760 kg was found.
A total of 11,786 pills of tramadol, molly, rohypnol, and diazepam, along with 64 bottles of codeine syrup, were found in an underground storage that one Muhammad Warnos Abdullahi dug in his bedroom at Marwa Coastal Road, Lekki Phase 1 Lagos, according to a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
The Underground Storage
He claimed that the underground storage was discovered during a Friday raid on the suspect’s home. The storage was excavated out of his bedroom, covered with a rug and padlocked iron slate, and then, in order to evade detection, his mattress was placed on top.
According to Babafemi, Ademola Oyelakin, another suspect, was taken into custody on Friday along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with 770 kg of suspected cannabis.
Babafemi claims that the agency’s agents stopped shipments of opioids that were hidden in shoe soles and hair attachments on their way to the US, UK, and Cyprus at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, as well as three courier services in the state.
According to him, 2,118 tramadol pills hidden in the soles of 13 pairs of shoes headed to Cyprus were found at the Lagos airport’s export shed on October 12 and another 380 tablets were found at the residence of the sender, Okenwa Kelvin Uchenna, during a follow-up operation in Enugu on Thursday, October 24. He also stated that N968,880 in cash and a Toyota Avalon car with the license plate UWN389AS were found on the suspect at the time of his arrest.
293 Injectable Ampoules
Babafemi added that on Thursday, the agency seized at least 293 injectable ampoules of promethazine and pentazocine, as well as 1.690 kg of cannabis and tramadol tablets hidden in shoe soles and hair attachments headed to the US, UK, and Oman at three courier companies.
Accordingly, between Tuesday, October 22, and Wednesday, October 23, NDLEA agents conducted a 100% joint examination of watch-listed containers at the Tincan Port in Lagos and Port Harcourt Port, Onne, Rivers states, intercepting 26,250,000 tramadol pills and 508,400 bottles of codeine-based syrup valued at N16, 683, 800,000 (N16, 683, 800,000) in street value.
56 parcels of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis weighing 28 kg, were also found in a container that arrived at the Lagos port from Canada. Other illegal shipments that were intercepted during the joint inspection of the containers include 10 million tablets of Toradol Benzhexol and 28 plastic drums of methamphetamine weighing 700 kg at Tincan and Onne, respectively.
He stated, “A bribe of N10 million paid to NDLEA officers to free the suspect has been kept as part of the exhibits for the prosecution of the case. A suspect, Tsolaye Eburajolo, 40, was arrested in the Ago Palace area of Okota Lagos in connection with the cannabis seizure.”
Fadan Bindom, a 39-year-old suspect in Plateau
Was taken into custody in Pilgani village with 65.85 kg of cannabis and 18 grams of tramadol, while on Wednesday, October 23, Sunday Agbata, 42, another suspect, was apprehended in Pavwei-Rayfield Jos South LGA with 5,830 pills and ampoules of injections of pentazocine, diazepam, and bromazepam.
