Mayhem has erupted at Farasime Village, Owode Apa border in Badagry West, Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, where officers of the Nigerian Navy and youths in the area are engaged in gunfights.
According to an anonymous source, who said that the whole violence started on early Thursday morning as Navy personnel acting on intelligence came to the village to catch PMS smugglers, who were smuggling petrol to Cotonou through the Owode Apa border.
The Nigerian Navy met resistance from the youths who wouldn’t let the officers make the arrest; the officers felt threatened and opened fire, then the youths fired back, resulting in an ongoing gun battle.
While hiding in his abode, the source said, “Right now, I’m not sure of my safety. It is Farasimè village Badagry West, Lagos state in Owode Apa border.
“It is that the Navy that came to arrest people who are smuggling fuel through there to Cotonou and youths are resisting, so the Navy officers are shooting.
“Please, somebody help us. My house is by the roadside.
“I’m not involved in smuggling. I don’t do that kind of business. Youths have put a big fire in front of my house to block the road. I’m very scared.”
There have been no comments on this situation by the Nigerian Navy, and there’s also no report on the number of casualties from the gun battle.
