Soyombo In Custody: Army Ties Him To Suspected Oil Thieves
Nigeria Army revealed that he they have arrested and detained an investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo in an alleged connection with oil bunkering in Port Harcourt, River state.in Port Harcourt.
If you remember the Foundation of Investigative Journalism (FIJ) revealed on X that Soyombo was arrested and held at the Rmy custody for the past three days. This news created widespread outrage across the social media platforms with #FreeFisayo which was trending on X. There was a statement by the acting deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said Fisayo Soyombo was one of those arrested among those involved in oil theft.
” The headquarters, relseased a statement that read,”Nigeria Army, has expressed concern over allegations circulating on social media that it detained an investigative journalist in Port Harcourt.
“While the Division does not typically engage with the providers of falsehoods, it is necessary to set the record straight. As part of rigors operations against oil theft, the division Nigerian Army has recorded significant successes. Most recent intelligence reveled the dangerous activities of notorious gang involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal oil connections in the region.
” In a more careful and planned operation, the Nigeria troops tracked the suspects to an illegal oil bunkering site. During the operation, multiple arrests were made, including that of Mr Soyombo was found at the scene.
” The arrest is directly linked to the ongoing operations on anti-oil theft operations in the region, and any claims suggesting otherwise baseless.
