Horror! Final-Year Student Killed by Cleric in Ilorin

The ritual-murder victim in Ilorin was a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde; she was lured into meeting Islamic cleric Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo via Facebook.

One of the suspects is said to be born of a prominent Muslim cleric in the Isalekoto community. He is now in police custody at the police command headquarters in Ilorin.

Reports have it that she attended a naming ceremony, then received a call from a friend, left her food to pick the call, and since then has not been seen again.

The family and friends began searching for her but could not find her. Her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her as missing on Tuesday at the Oja-Oba Police Division in Ilorin.

The police demanded her number then used it to track her last call up to a suspect residing in the Ofa Garage area of Ilorin, although his family home is in Isalekuto.

The suspect denied knowledge of Hafsoh; however, while his house was searched, he confessed that she had visited him but died due to asthma after being invited over.

A very gruesome investigative report showed that Hafsoh’s body was dismembered and hidden in a bowl side by side with tools said to have been used to dismantle her. Now in custody at the Kwara State Police Headquarters, the suspect is said to have met Hafsoh on Facebook, where he got her phone number and lured her to his house.

The stuff from his domicile gives that impression; that’s likely, because a table in his room had some apparatus resembling those meant for cutting bodies.

This case is mainly investigated at the Kwara State Police Command headquarters.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed: “The command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal.

“On 11/02/2025, a case of a missing person was reported at C Division, Oja-Oba, by her father, Mr Ibrahim A. Lawal, at about 18:00 hours.

“As soon as that happened, police detectives swung into action and traced her number. They arrested a suspect, and the case got transferred to the SCID for thorough investigation yesterday. Further updates would be communicated as the investigation flows.”
