Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has stated that Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike must clarify his political affiliation regarding his role in the rainbow coalition.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Inside Sources on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Dauda Lawal urged Wike to take a definitive stand on his political loyalty.
The governor noted that Wike had previously maintained he could not simultaneously support the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties.
“Our message is very very clear: be on one side, you can’t be on two sides,” he said.
“If you are in APC, please come out and support the APC, not you are supporting APC here and you are supporting some other political parties somewhere else.
“We maintain our stand and the message is very clear. He can speak, he can say whatever he wants to say, but our position has been very clear, APC all the way from head to toe.”
Gov Dauda Lawal added that when President Bola Tinubu returns from his work trip overseas, he will talk to him about Wike’s political stance.
He mentioned that Wike was being asked to join the APC by the governors.
“It’s something I will discuss with the President when he comes back,” he said.
“Let there be a clear line where this guy belongs to. It’s either he is in APC or he is out, simple. So I go with my brothers, the governors.”
Backstory…
The FCT Minister leads the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party group backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Wike said in January that the coalition represented a shift from traditional party politics to a broader political movement focused on advancing the interests of the state.
However, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) said it would not support any political agreements or alliances that could undermine Tinubu’s re-election campaign or the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
Recall that the FCT Minister remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has openly declared that he is working for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, while remaining an active member of the PDP.
