Desmond Olushola Elliot, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who represents Surulere Constituency I, has announced plans to run for re-election in the upcoming legislative elections.

Elliot confirmed that he had received the nomination paperwork to run for a second term in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday.

He  further clarified that his decision is based on his dedication to serving the public and his wish to build on the advancements made in Surulere Constituency I.

Elliot also pointed out that returning to the Assembly would make him a ranking member, which he claimed would benefit the constituency even more.

He said, “My going back makes me automatically a ranking member and loads of benefits come to our constituency as a result of this feat.”

Elliot also thanked ward executives, community leaders, youth and women’s organisations, party leaders, and other stakeholders for their ongoing support, which he said was crucial to his political career.

The lawmaker emphasised the value of harmony and respect for one another while urging his followers to maintain composure and concentration throughout the election process.

Additionally, Desmond Elliot reiterated that supporting Surulere’s ongoing development and helping Lagos State as a whole continue to be his top priorities.

BACKSTORY…

Desmond Elliot’s re-election bid comes four years after he was severely criticised over the construction of a ‘pako bridge’ in the constituency.

In 2022, the veteran actor was heavily criticised on social media for the wooden bridge which was considered by many as a low standard.

He however clarified that after he donated N800,000 to the community for the bridge’s construction, they informed him that they would like to put his photo on the bridge as a token of gratitude.
