This week, US President Donald Trump used his veto authority for the first time in his second term to reject two bills: the expansion of a Native American reserve and a water pipeline.

Trump rejected the bipartisan-backed proposals on Monday, the White House said on social media, according to AFP on Wednesday. To override the president, the bills would require a two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate.

The “Finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act,” one of the proposals, sought to finish a decades-long project to deliver clean water to Colorado’s Eastern Plains.

In his letter to Congress explaining the veto, President Donald Trump argued it would cost too much and said he was “preventing American taxpayers from funding expensive and unreliable policies.”

The pipeline was first proposed in the 1960s during the administration of John F. Kennedy, and both chambers of Congress unanimously supported the vetoed bill.

Republicans Lauren Boebert and Jeff Hurd, as well as Colorado’s two Democratic senators, supported it.

“This isn’t over,” Boebert posted on social media after Donald Trump’s veto.

The former MAGA ally recently broke with Trump over the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Boebert was one of four Republican congressmen who played a key role in pressuring the Justice Department to make the remaining records on the late wealthy banker and sex offender public.

President Donald Trump, despite spending months fighting the release before eventually relenting, has denied any knowledge of his former friend’s crimes.

Trump had also recently vowed to take “harsh measures” against Colorado officials over an imprisoned GOP election official whom he tried to pardon.

Additionally, the “Miccosukee Reserved Area Amendments Act” was also rejected by Trump on Monday, according to the White House.

The proposal aimed to increase the Miccosukee Native American Tribe’s authority over Osceola Camp, a portion of Florida’s Everglades National Park.

This year, the tribe joined a lawsuit against “Alligator Alcatraz,” an immigrant detention facility located in the Everglades. The facility is essentially closed after a federal judge ordered the dismantling of a large portion of the site.

Presidential vetoes are rarely exercised.

During his first stint in office, Trump vetoed 10 bills. His predecessor, Joe Biden, vetoed 13 bills over his four-year term.
