The Federal Government, on Tuesday, paid up the June 2025 salaries of lecturers and other tertiary institution-based workers. This is coming as ASUU sounded a warning if the salaries remained unpaid.

A letter asking members to return to work was sent by branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) after salaries were released.

Recall how union chapters at several federal institutions implemented a no-pay-no-work policy after witnessing what they called a five-month period of consistent salary delays?

According to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the delay was caused by academics switching from the IPPIS platform to the GIFMIS version.

Dr. Haruna Angulu, the branch chairperson of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, reported that the members had returned after the June 2025 salary payments.

Members were also instructed to return to work after the first postponed pay cheques were paid, according to a message from ASUU, Federal University, Kashere.

The protesting lecturers at the University of Jos have also been reported to have returned to work after receiving a memo from the bursary stating that salaries had been paid.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa said that the current climate of stability in tertiary institutions was the consequence of ongoing communication, respect for one another, and sincere efforts by the current administration to meet the demands of both academic and non-academic staff unions.

“It is not by coincidence that Nigerian public tertiary institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years, something that has not happened in several decades.

“We are meeting demands in phases, and we are doing so respectfully and consistently,” the minister said.

Alausa emphasised that the Federal Government’s primary concern is the welfare of academic and non-academic workers, in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the development of human capital.

He confirmed to the academics that the government would not compromise on preserving the academic calendar and enhancing working conditions.
