The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified security measures across Abuja ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to ensure residents enjoy a peaceful and secure festive period.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement by the Police command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, who said the police, alongside other security agencies, had activated a joint security operation tagged “Operation Sweep FCT.”

According to the statement, the operation involves collaboration with the Nigerian Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and other relevant agencies.

Adeh explained that security personnel have been strategically deployed across different sectors of the FCT to carry out routine patrols and coordinated operations aimed at preventing crime and ensuring a swift response to any security threats.

She added that, as part of proactive security measures, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have been assigned to conduct security sweeps at worship centres, recreational spots, and other locations expected to attract large crowds during the celebrations.

The statement further noted that intelligence-driven operations and targeted raids on identified criminal hideouts and drug-related hotspots have also been ordered, with strict instructions for all officers to operate professionally and within the confines of the law.
