Eke Regina Nnenna Takes Over as 19th NYSC State Coordinator in Gombe

Mrs Eke Regina Nnenna has officially assumed office as the 19th State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State, following a leadership transition at the organisation’s state secretariat.

She takes over from Mrs Chinwe Nnenna Nwachuku, who is leaving the position after more than two years in office and 35 years of service to the NYSC.

The handover ceremony, held at the NYSC State Secretariat in Gombe, marked the beginning of a new administrative chapter for the organisation in the state. It also provided an opportunity for staff members and other attendees to recognise the contributions of the outgoing coordinator and welcome her successor.

Nnenna’s appointment comes with the responsibility of overseeing the scheme’s activities in Gombe, including corps members’ administration, community development initiatives and collaboration with government institutions and other stakeholders.

Speaking after assuming office, the new coordinator expressed appreciation for the reception she received and acknowledged the importance of cooperation among employees in achieving the organisation’s objectives.

She also outlined her expectations for the workforce, emphasising discipline, accountability, diligence and timely execution of official responsibilities.

According to her, employees must demonstrate commitment to their assignments without waiting for constant supervision. She encouraged staff members to take ownership of their responsibilities and ensure that their performance reflects positively on the organisation.

Her remarks suggest an early focus on workplace accountability and improved administrative efficiency as she begins her tenure.

New Coordinator Pledges Collaboration With Gombe Stakeholders

One of the immediate priorities highlighted in the leadership transition is the need for cooperation between the NYSC and institutions responsible for supporting its operations across the state.

In a statement announcing the development, the NYSC Gombe State Secretariat said Eke had pledged to build on the achievements of her predecessor. She also called on the Gombe State Government and residents to support her administration.

Her appeal extends beyond government officials. She specifically sought the cooperation of security agencies, partner institutions, other stakeholders, corps members, employers of corps members and members of the public.

The involvement of these groups is important to the successful implementation of NYSC programmes. Security agencies contribute to the safety of corps members, while employers and host institutions provide the working environments in which they carry out their primary assignments.

Similarly, cooperation with government agencies and community stakeholders supports the implementation of community development projects, which remain an important part of the national service experience.

The new coordinator’s emphasis on collaboration indicates that her administration will depend on maintaining existing relationships while identifying opportunities to improve the scheme’s activities in Gombe.

The secretariat also acknowledged the media’s contribution to publicising NYSC programmes and activities, expressing appreciation for the continued support of media organisations operating in the state.

Back Story: Who Is the New Gombe NYSC Coordinator?

Regina-Nnenna Eke joins the Gombe State Secretariat after serving as Deputy Director at the NYSC South-South Area Office I in Asaba, Delta State. Her previous position provided her with experience in the organisation’s administrative structure before her latest deployment.

She assumed duty on Friday, October 30, 2026, following her posting by the NYSC management.

Her predecessor, Chinwe Nwachuku, retired after what the organisation described as meritorious service. Nwachuku’s departure created the vacancy that led to Eke’s appointment.

The transition is part of the NYSC’s administrative structure, through which officers are posted to different locations to oversee the implementation of the scheme’s responsibilities.

The National Youth Service Corps was established on May 22, 1973, under the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon. Its creation followed the Nigerian Civil War, with national reconciliation, reconstruction and the promotion of unity among its central objectives.

Since its establishment, the scheme has provided Nigerian graduates with an opportunity to serve in states outside their usual places of residence, encouraging interaction across ethnic, cultural and geographical boundaries.

Through its orientation programmes, primary assignments and Community Development Service initiatives, the NYSC continues to contribute to national integration and grassroots development.

Further information about the scheme’s mandate and activities is available on the official NYSC website.

Leadership Change Comes as NYSC Sustains Its National Mandate

For Gombe State, the appointment represents more than a routine change of personnel. The effectiveness of the new administration will depend partly on how well it maintains relationships with institutions, communities and individuals whose cooperation is necessary for the scheme to function.

Eke’s request for support from these groups reflects the shared responsibility involved in delivering national service programmes. Her ability to work with these stakeholders will be important in sustaining the NYSC’s activities and ensuring that corps members receive the necessary institutional support throughout their service year.

The development also places attention on the importance of continuity in public administration. While a new coordinator brings fresh leadership, maintaining effective programmes and strengthening established partnerships remain essential to achieving the organisation’s objectives.

As Eke settles into her new assignment, the expectations will extend beyond managing the state secretariat. Her administration will also be expected to contribute to the broader NYSC mission of promoting national unity, youth development and community service.
