Electricity Cut to Kaduna Govt House Over N2.9bn Unpaid Bills

Kaduna Electric has cut off power supply to the Kaduna State Government House and other state government offices due to unpaid bills totaling ₦2.9 billion. Despite a recent payment of ₦256 million, significant arrears remain, covering electricity consumption from January to July 2024. The disconnection followed extensive but unsuccessful efforts to resolve the issue through consultations. This move comes after the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service sealed the electricity company over ₦600 million in tax liabilities. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission previously intervened in the company’s management. The situation underscores the need for better financial management and timely payments by government entities to prevent disruptions in essential services.
