The father of former Big Brother Naija winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, Mr. Odinia Emmanuel Godson, has publicly addressed the incident that allegedly resulted in the physical assault and domestic violence involving his daughter.
In a viral confession video shared by a journalist on Facebook, Mr. Godson explained the circumstances that led to the situation.
“I am Odinia Emmanuel Godson, the father of Ilebaye Odiniya,” he said.
“I want to sincerely thank Nigerians both at home and abroad for their reactions to what has been circulating online about my daughter, whether positive or negative.
“I also want to make it clear that my actions were never because I don’t love my daughter. She is one of my best children. Anyone familiar with our history knows she attended some of the best schools, which reflects how much I care for her.
“When she expressed interest in joining Big Brother Naija, I supported her fully. Although she was evicted during her first attempt, I continued to stand by her. During the 2023 edition, I contributed greatly by using my connections both within and outside Nigeria to help secure votes for her.
“My personal efforts accounted for over 75 percent of the support she received. However, after she won the show, the expectations I had for her were not met.
“In my culture, parents are expected to correct their children before things get out of hand. Over time, Ilebaye stopped listening to me whenever I tried to advise her,” he stated.
Earlier reports revealed that Ilebaye Odiniya had cried out for help over alleged domestic violence and physical assault.
During an emotional Instagram livestream on Friday night, the reality star appeared with a visibly swollen face while repeatedly calling for help.
In the now-viral clip, Ilebaye was seen screaming and crying as a man believed to be her father was allegedly heard and seen assaulting her in the background.
