Bishop T.D Jakes steps down at Potter’s House, leadership passed to daughter and son-in-law
The position of senior pastor of the Potter’s House will, for the first time after 30 years, be uplifted to the daughter’s and son-in-law’s strong shoulders, as the Bishop T.D. Jakes in his announcement said.

Jakes and his wife Serita Jakes, having officiated the church service on Sunday, proclaimed Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts and Sarah’s husband, Pastor Touré Roberts, as the new senior pastors of The Potter’s House.
The two will officially assume their roles as of July. Jakes will continue serving on the Potter’s House Board of Directors.
“As your pastor-elect, co-senior pastor elect, I’m grateful, I’m honored as your daughter,” Jakes Roberts said, fighting through tears as she embraced her father.
Last year in November, Jakes suffered a heart attack during a morning service at Potter’s House, which was captured live on video. It was questioned whether he’d return.
“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me, and you be sheep without a shepherd,” Jakes said during the announcement Sunday.
The Jakes family, soon after that Sunday announcement to the congregation, penned the following letter:

“Today we shared with the world our long-held plans of purposeful evolution for The Potter’s House and our global church family.
What has been built in preparation leading to this announcement over the last several years marks a point in our time where family and global church community have been able to balance so consequently the needs of each other together with the steadiness of pace with which we have stepped to every victory in the plan, and now have a point from which to launch into action.”
The realignment was between my pew relatives who earlier closed shop at Los Angeles and moved back to Dallas, so as to be more active in the evolution of this growing ministry. A handshake across generations in the passing of Woman, Thou Art Loosed, Woman Evolve was heard in 2022, and with the continuing installation of our two new assistant pastors in 2023, we continue to forge ahead in the vision we set long ago.
Today is just another milestone signifying our willingness to evolve as a church into broad roles to allow us to continue meeting the needs of this sensitive moment in our collective history.
Staring at the horizon across our great nation and asking the earth to give voice to some of the major (and minor but mostly unyielding) economic, societal, and spiritual needs visiting our corners, it becomes apparent that there is just an outright squandering of this promise by not only youth but also many of the elders who have paved the way. First-time homeowners-we see their difficult situations. We see an urgent need for investment in this ever-growing entrepreneurial landscape, as well as that juniors who just want a home for their faith walk amidst all this skepticism. These are not stories of despair: they are calls for change.

And together we will face these challenges and this need for change in our own unique ways.
Pastors Touré & Sarah usher in yet another staircase of acceptance for the mantle of daily ministry duties here at The Potter’s House of Dallas into usher an entirely new movement and calling and then the work of the T.D. Jakes Group for the bolstering of job creation and workforce readiness for the 21st century. Invest in the Infrastructure.
