Chidimma Adetshina Marks 20 Years with Return to Miss Universe Nigeria

Former Miss South Africa finalist Chidimma Adetshina has made a significant return to Nigeria, marking a major milestone in her journey by participating in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant. After two decades away, she arrived in Lagos on August 22, 2024, expressing her excitement to reconnect with her heritage and explore Nigerian culture.

Chidimma shared her enthusiasm about being back in Nigeria, her father’s homeland, and her desire to immerse herself in its rich culture. “I’m just really excited that I’m in my father’s land and I wanna get to experience more about it,” she said. “It’s been 20 years since I’ve been here, so I just wanna get to know more about Nigeria’s culture and where I really come from.”

Her return to Nigeria comes with a clear goal: to win the Miss Universe Nigeria crown. She emphasized her commitment to using the platform to foster unity and celebrate diversity. “My goal is obviously to win the crown. As someone who has faced adversity, I want to use my story to bring people together. We should value diversity and celebrate our differences—it’s the key to building a stronger community where everyone is recognised and appreciated,” she stated.

Chidimma’s participation in Miss Universe Nigeria is particularly poignant as she had to withdraw from the Miss South Africa pageant due to nationality disputes and xenophobic attacks. Her entry into the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant has been supported by the Silverbird Group, which she thanked for the opportunity.

Alongside her pageant aspirations, Chidimma is pursuing a law degree, with plans to further her education after the pageant. “I’m a law student, and once I graduate, I’d like to further my studies in that field,” she noted.

As Contestant Number 25, representing Taraba State, Chidimma is set to compete in the grand finale of Miss Universe Nigeria, scheduled for August 31, 2024, at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Her return and participation in the pageant are generating significant buzz, and her journey is being closely followed by fans and media alike.
