    South African satellite giant Multichoice and owners of DSTV are in for major competition as Luft Pay TV officially joins Nigeria’s competitive pay television industry with its launch in Lagos. The startup is promises accessible, affordable, and regionally relevant entertainment options for Nigerian consumers.

    Yemi Adebowale, Head of Corporate Communications and Media at Luft Pay TV, stated during the launch ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, that the platform’s goal is to satisfy the growing need for reasonably priced, high-quality home entertainment.

    Adebowale went on to say that Luft Pay TV is dedicated to providing high-definition material, top-notch children’s programming, and a strong emphasis on indigenous storytelling, according to The Nation.

    He said “This brand is not just delivering television, it is delivering trust, clarity, and connection we promise.”

    Recall that DSTV had received backlash from users over its high subscription rates. This followed with a lawsuit on DSTV by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) however, the court upheld that DSTV had the freedom to raise it subscription.

    According to Adebowale, the pay TV service offers access to over 35 premium channels including sports, Nollywood, Hollywood, children’s programming, documentaries, music, and lifestyle material, all for a monthly fee of N7,500.

    The company claims that a complete set-top box kit with accessories costs N35,000, while the decoder costs N25,000. According to Punch, the company argued that its one subscription approach avoids the need for various tiers and hidden charges, giving a more user-friendly experience.

    Adebowale added that Luft Pay TV is a fully Nigerian-owned company that is dedicated to supporting regional narratives by collaborating with local content producers.

    He noted that the company had already commenced installations across cities and towns in Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, supported by a growing sales and distribution network.
